Moisture Slowly Returns Over The Weekend
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**
QUIET DAY: As expected the northern half of Alabama is generally dry. Showers and storms are south of a line from Roanoke to Alexander City to Selma to Grove Hill…
The showers and storms over South Alabama will fade one the sun goes down later this evening.
OUR WEEKEND: Not much change tomorrow; the air over the northern half of the state will be pretty dry, and any afternoon showers/storms tomorrow should be far and between with a high in the upper 80s. But, on Sunday, deeper moisture moves northward, and we expect scattered to numerous showers and storms with a mostly cloudy sky. The high will be only in the low to mid 80s Sunday due to clouds and showers. It won’t rain all day Sunday, but the rain could come at any time. It should be our wettest day out of the next 7 days.
NEXT WEEK: Monday looks pretty routine for mid-July, with a mix of sun and clouds and the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Then, an upper high builds into Alabama from the north, and showers and storms should be more widely spaced Tuesday through Thursday with hotter afternoons. Highs during the middle of the week will be in the 90-94 degree range.
TROPICS: No sign of any organization in the wave formerly known as “Chantal” around the Bahamas; this might bring enhanced rain coverage to the Carolinas in a few days, but all of that stays east of Alabama, and the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Looks good this weekend and through much of next week, with about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day with a few scattered showers or storms. Highs along the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with low 90s inland. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is 84 degrees. Below is from the ABC 33/40 SKYCAM at the Phoenix All-Suites in Gulf Shores…
