Looking Upstream

In Northwest Alabama, the NWS Huntsville allowed the tornado warning that was in effect for Colbert and Lauderdale Counties to expire. The circulation has weakened.

The NWS Huntsville has just issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale Counties. The storms near Fulton MS show lots of bowing structures and rotation. They will push into the warned counties.

Looking upstream over Mississippi for our friends in Northwest and West Central Alabama:

…the line now extends from west of Florence to Fulton to eastof Tupelo to Houston to Walthall to Kosciusko to Ridgeland, Jackson and Bude.
…there are four severe thunderstorm warnings along the line in Central and southern Mississippi.
…most of the lightning is over southwestern Mississippi, south of Natchez, indicating where the stronger instability is.
…new severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Attala, Choctaw, Clay, Oktibbeha, Webster and Winston Counties in Mississippi, including West Point, Starkville, Ackerman, Louisville and Kosciusko. These storms are about 75 minutes from Marion County (ETA 4:45), 90 minutes from Lamar County (ETA 5:15) and 120 minutes from Pickens County (ETA 5:30). Warnings may be required. So we want our friends in those counties that might be in mobile homes to start thinking about a safe place they will go if warnings are required and be ready to leave well in advance of the storms.
…good news is there have been no damage reports from these storms over the past hour or so, but they are the ones to watch for now.
…the storms in the Jackson area are kicking up a fuss. Just had a report of transformers down and flooding the Flowood area.
…showers are trying to develop ahead of the line, but they are having a hard time because of a stubborn cap that is keeping a lid on deep convection. Showers extend from western Jefferosn down through Tuscaloosa and Bibb Counties into Hale and Marengo Counties. We will watch for development, because if they get going, they will rotate and have the potential to produce tornadoes.
…a tornado watch is in effect for most of North and parts of Central Alabama until 10 a.m.
…we are in the SPC’s standard “slight” risk severe weather outlook for most of the state (except the northwest corner) starting at 6 a.m. CST. The current day one goes through 6 a.m. and has a standard “slight’ risk for basically the northwestern half of Alabama, including the Birmingham area.

…New tornado watch just issued for Mississippi. Old one was expiring at 4 a.m. New one goes until 8 a.m.
