Cold Shot Early Next Week

| January 18, 2013 @ 2:48 pm

**No Weather Xtreme video this afternoon; have to catch up on chores in the weather office**

TONS O’ SUN: What a perfect Friday. Sunny and mild, after a snow day. Interesting to note snow cover was still showing up over parts of Walker/Cullman/Blount/NE Jefferson counties at mid-morning on visible satellite images…

If you like the weather today, you will love the weekend forecast. Lots of sun tomorrow and Sunday with highs in the 55 to 60 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: We will have a shot of cold, Arctic air early in the week. The high will drop into the 40s Monday, and I am not sure we can get out of the 30s Tuesday. The coldest morning should come early Tuesday, when most places will see a low between 17 and 21 degrees; probably our coldest temperatures so far this season. Then, a moderating trend kicks in Wednesday afternoon. The cold air is dry, and there is no chance of snow this time.

Next chance of showers will come at the end of next week, one week from today (Jan 25), followed by much colder air for the following weekend (Jan 26-27). Some hint the rain could taper off to snow flurries Friday night (1/25), but for now it doesn’t look like a big issue.

VOODOO LAND: Another big rain event shows up right at the end of the month. Deterministic model runs have bounced back and forth with this system between just rain, and some risk of winter weather mischief. Just too early to call; we will watch for trends.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I had a ball going “home” this morning to see the kids at Greenville Elementary School in Butler County. I attended school on that campus (it was W.O. Parmer Elementary then) from K through 4th grade… being in the building brought back great memories. And, my old friend Dexter McClendon, now the Mayor of Greenville, dropped by as well.

Brian Peters will have the video updates here tomorrow and Sunday; my next Weather Xtreme video will be posted bright and early Monday by 7:00 a.m. Enjoy the weekend!
