SEVERE CLEAR: What a picture perfect autumn afternoon across the great state of Alabama. Blue sky, sunshine, low humidity, and temperatures in the mid 70s. Tonight will be clear and cool with temperatures dropping into the 40s by daybreak tomorrow.

The sky will stay sunny tomorrow, and most of the day Wednesday as dry air stays in place. We reach the mid 70s tomorrow, and upper 70s Wednesday.

NEXT RAIN EVENT: We will maintain a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The 12Z GFS isn’t very bullish on rain amounts; suggesting totals will be less than 1/2 inch, and also showing hardly any chance of severe weather. Still, we note SPC has parts of Missouri and Arkansas in a “slight risk” Wednesday with the incoming upper trough, so we will keep an eye on things as the system gets closer.

I doubt if we can get out of the 60s Thursday with the clouds and rain. Sunshine returns Friday with a high only around 70 degrees.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday looks absolutely beautiful, with maximum sunshine, and a high in the low 70s. We should begin the day down around 40 degrees, with colder valleys seeing a low in the mid to upper 30s.

For now we will keep the forecast dry Sunday. The 12Z GFS shows a surface boundary slipping into the state from the north with some potential for showers near the Tennessee border, but the air will be very dry and the chance of rain for now looks tiny.

See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: Rafael has a good looking satellite presentation this afternoon, and could very well be a minimal hurricane by the time you read this north of Puerto Rico. It will pass east of Bermuda tomorrow night, and then recurve over the open North Atlantic later in the week. No threat to the U.S… and the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
