PLEASANT EARLY OCTOBER DAY: Temperatures are mostly in the mid 70s across this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. Dewpoints are low, and the day is very comfortable.

We will hang to a slight risk of a shower tonight with the axis of an upper trough passing overhead, but with the low levels so dry most places will remain rain-free.

Temperatures will warm into the low 80s tomorrow and Friday with a good supply of sunshine both days.

BIG WEEKEND CHANGES: Saturday will remain warm and dry with a high in the low 80s, but a cold front will bring the coolest air so far this season in here Sunday. We will continue to mention just a small risk of a shower along the front late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, but with very limited moisture most communities won’t get wet.

The high Sunday will be only in the low 60s with a cool north breeze, despite a mostly sunny sky. And, by daybreak Monday, most places around here will be in the 37-43 degree range. Maybe even a touch of frost for the colder North Alabama valleys.

Next week looks superb with sunny comfortable days and clear chilly nights. A great example of why October is my favorite month. Doesn’t get much better.

RACE WEEKEND: I don’t expect any rain at the Talladega Superspeedway Saturday or Sunday, so no rain issues for the races. Just a very slim risk of a shower late Saturday night with the cold front, but the chance of a shower at the track is only about one in ten. Temperatures will reach the low 80s Saturday, but the high Sunday at Talladega will be only in the low 60s with a fresh north breeze.

TROPICS: Tropical Depression 15 has formed in the Atlantic, and it is expected to become Tropical Storm Oscar soon, but it will move northeast and is no threat to the U.S. Tropical Storm Nadine is still hanging around, but should finally become post-tropical by tomorrow night. No systems are close to the U.S. mainland.
