Nadine the Unpredictable

| September 29, 2012 @ 10:10 am

Nadine lost her hurricane status early this morning, but as has been her tradition, she proved her detractors wrong and was back to hurricane strength at 10 a.m. Top winds are 75 mph.

The center of the hurricane is about 500 miles southwest of the Azores, and moving north northwest at 14 mph. It just crossed over its own track and we can’t rule out that might happen again. In fact, it likely will on Tuesday as it makes a loop-the-loop. It will slow dramatically in the next 12 hours and begin to meander. It probably will move less than 250 miles in the next five days.

It should stay tropical much of that time, which is remarkable, because by Wednesday, it will have been around for 22 days, possibly surpassing the former longevity mark, which is held by 1971’s Tropical Storm Ginger.

It could bring tropical storm force winds to the Azores by midweek.
