A Few Showers, Isolated Storms

| August 24, 2012 @ 5:50 pm

A few showers and isolated storms have popped up this afternoon over Alabama in a broad easterly low level flow that is transporting in slightly better moisture, acted on by the warm surface temperatures.

One of the heavier cells is just west of Chelsea in Shelby County. It will weaken shortly as it has pushed out an outflow boundary that is pushing west over Shelby County.

Another is developing over western Jefferson County between Forestdale and Smithfield Estates.

Storms approaching Logan Martin have weakened. Others in Clay County are still pretty heavy north of Ashland.

But everything is very isolated. Any heavy rain will be rather brief, but there could be a few lightning strokes.

Everything should calm down shortly as we lose the heating of the day.
