ORIGINAL POST
A few showers are now showing up over Northeast Alabama. They extend fro Jackson through Marshall then into Blount Counties. Others are over Cherokee and Etowah Counties.

They’re growing to the point where they may produce lightning soon so watch out for that. In fact, as I write this, the first lightning strikes are showing up near Arab and Scottsboro. With all the outdoor activities today, remember, when thunder roars, go indoors. If you can hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you. Stay in a safe place until 30 minutes after you hear the last thunder.

They are moving south it appears which would be consistent with the upper wind flow.

In addition to the lightning, expect brief heavy rain, some small hail and strong gusty winds. A couple of them will likely become severe briefly as well, so expect a couple of warnings.

Folks aroung Scottsboro, Arab, Holly Pond, Reece City, Gadsden and Centre will see growing showers in their areas in the next hour.

I think we will continue to see showers and storms pop up across the northern third of Alabama this afternoon. That is where the best moisture and instability are co-located at this time. They will move south into and past the I-20 corridor over the next few hours.

It’s hot and humid. 91F at Birmingham last hour. Same at Gadsen. 88F at Anniston and 93F at Tuscaloosa. Highs will end up in the middle and upper 90s. A few folks will reach 100F, especially over West Alabama.

In South Alabama, storms have blown up along the seabreeze front over southern Mobile County where a severe thunderstorm warning was just issued.
