Unsettled Weather Continues

We will remain in an unsettled pattern for today and Monday as a weak disturbance makes its way slowly across the Southeast US. That disturbance will keep Alabama wet with showers off and on today and Monday and with the clouds associated with the showers we should remain somewhat cool with a high around 80 degrees. And like yesterday, we’ll see temperatures drop when you get under one of the showers. Rainfall amounts over the next couple of days are likely to be in the 1 to 2 inch range, but there will be considerable variability due to the nature of the showers.

Not much change in the pattern Monday, but Tuesday the substantial trough in the westerlies will nudge the weakness over the Southeast a bit more eastward. This will put us more into a scattered showers with much of the rain a bit east of us. Wednesday continues that trend with showers become more widely scattered.

And by Thursday and into Friday, the pattern for us dries out some as the ridge to our west moves closer. But it looks like scattered showers are likely to return on Saturday once again. The good news, though, is that we are not seeing any signs of extreme heat as we climb back toward highs around 90 by the end of the week.

SPC shows a slight risk of severe weather ahead of the major trough in South Central Canada for today with a small possibility of isolated severe storms along the Alabama/Northwest Florida coastal area. Day 2 sees the severe weather threat shift into Arkansas, but by Day 3 the main risk returns to the front range of the Rockies. And the tropics remain quiet.

Looking into voodoo country, there remains no significant sign of extreme heat. In fact, the overall pattern favors rain chances and clouds which would keep temperatures at or slightly below averages for mid to late June. And that is certainly a welcome thing to see.
