Update for the Track, Birmingham

| May 6, 2012 @ 7:49 am

The Talladega Superspeedway has been trimmed from the severe thunderstorm warning as the storms have pushed south of the track.

Light to moderate rain continues at the track and will for the next 30-45 minutes.

Some lightning will pass just west of the track in the next 30 minutes though as a storm south of Springville moves southeast toward Pell City.

Then there will be a little off and on light rain through 10:30 a.m.

The good news is that storms near Cullman that have appeared to be on a vector for the track are now turning more southerly as they start to travel along a frontal boundary that that is pushing southwestward now toward the Birmingham area.

Hopefully, this boundary will push far enough to the southwest to deflect the later storms to the west of Talladega. We will be watching.

So, there is a chance that there will be another round of storms at the track between 9:30-10:30, but more likely they will pass west of Talladega, between Pell City and Birmingham.

Hopefully the boundary will continue to push out of the way and the race will be rain free this afternoon, but we can’t promise that at this point, so pack the rain gear just in case.

For Birmingham, showers and storms will likely build back into eastern parts of the Metro over the next couple of hours.
