Serious Flooding Situation Tonight in Mobile

The flooding situation in parts of Mobile has become serious this evening as very heavy thunderstorms associated with a disturbance moving out of the Gulf have dumped over 5 inches of rain over parts of Mobile and Baldwin Counties this afternoon.

Several Mobile area roads are closed due to the flooding.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Mobile and eastern Baldwin Counties in Alabama and eastern George County MS.

The radar image above shows the warning and heavy rains massing again over the Bay and Dauphin Island south of Mobile.

The right side storms digital storm total precipitation since early this morning. A widespread area of 3-5 inch amounts already covers much of Mobile County over into Baldwin County. The magenta and purple colors reflect 6 to 9 inches of rain that has fallen north and northwest of downtown. The highest totals appear to be up US-45 from Eight Mile up to Mauvilla, including the area around the University of Mobile.

Water was a foot deep around US-45 and Bearfork Road with widespread flooding occurring.

Tell your friends and family in the Mobile area to “turn around, don’t drown!”
