Severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for much of Central Mississippi until 9 p.m. now as well as the tornado watch for northern Mississippi and northern Alabama.

The severe thunderstorm watch counties are in blue. The tornado watch counties in red.

You can see the thunderstorms developing rapidly over Mississippi and southern Tennessee.

The upper left panel of the graphic is the day one convective outlook. It shows the moderate risk area over the Tennessee Valley with the slight risk over the rest of the northern half of Alabama.

The lower left panel shows the SPC probabilities of a tornado within 25 miles of a given point. As you can see, there is a low end (but not zero) chance down to Birmimgham through tonight and a 10-15% chance over the Tennessee Valley up around Muscle Shoals, Huntsville and Scottsboro.
