THIS AFTERNOON: We are looking at just a little light rain and drizzle across Alabama this afternoon, with temperatures generally in the 68-72 degree range with a mostly cloudy sky. A surface cold front is near Memphis, and will slowly move through our state tomorrow.

Rain amounts for the next 24 hours will be light and spotty. The 12Z NAM is printing only 0.14″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is 0.21″. Clearly, most spots will see under a quarter-inch of rain through tomorrow night. And, tomorrow will be cooler with a high in the low 60s with clouds and the scattered light rain.

COOLER WEEKEND: Look for a good supply of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the mid 50s Saturday, and close to 60 Sunday. We will be right around freezing early Sunday morning, and Monday morning as well. Then, we warm into the mid 60s Monday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like the next chance of showers, and possibly a few thunderstorms, will come late Tuesday, Tuesday night, and possibly into Wednesday. Then, another round of rain shows up on Christmas Eve, Saturday December 24, followed by a dry and cool Christmas Day. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and details. Remember, no real skill in a specific forecast beyond 7 days, so the forecast for the Christmas weekend could very well change as we get closer.

And, the pattern still favors no major shots of very cold air into the Deep South through the end of December.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
