An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Wow… just checked out stats for yesterday and it looks like the blog served up 369,348 page views yesterday to a total of 67,151 unique visitors. I am pretty sure that is a record; thanks so much for your trust during such a dangerous weather day. I will try to get the live stream stats from our friends at al.com (our streaming partner) later today. This blog is a tremendous way to supplement our live TV/streaming coverage. Thanks to J.B. Elliott and Bill Murray for their tireless work here. Also, thanks to Jason Simpson, Ashley Brand, Brian Peters, and Tim Coleman for their work yesterday.

NWS survey teams will out today looking at the damage; we will relay their reports during the day as we receive them (from both the Birmingham and Jackson offices).

LOOKING AHEAD: The weather will be cooler today, with temperatures back to where they should be this time of the year, with a high in the mid 50s. We will be very close to freezing by daybreak tomorrow.

We can now get a good handle on our weekend wave on the old front, and the GFS and NAM agree that it will simply be too dry up here for any significant precipitation. And, the models are faster with the wave as well. Looks like we will see some increase in clouds tomorrow night, but that is out it. We can drop all mention of precipitation Sunday as the system will be well to the northeast by then. Colder air moves into the state Sunday and Monday, with a high near 50, and a low Monday morning below freezing.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The pattern looks colder and active for the rest of the month. The GFS advertises a number of northern Gulf of Mexico storm systems in coming weeks, giving the snow lovers some hope as occasional shots of Arctic air will be involved. The 06Z GFS shows a chance of rain Wednesday night of next week with a northern Gulf system, and another chance Friday night (one week from tonight, January 18). That system at the end of next week could tap some Arctic air on the northern periphery, so we will watch that closely in coming days.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

We will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted here by 3:30 this afternoon…. enjoy the day!
