The Magic Midnight Hour

Interesting how thunderstorms are hanging on over SE Alabama at the midnight hour. This has been a very potent weather event.

Near midnight, a very long line of thunderstorms extended all the way from Western North Carolina down across North and West Georgia, SE Alabama, across the Mobile-Biloxi area to several hundred miles across the NW Gulf of Mexico.

It is pouring rain over the NW Gulf of Mexico where there is no drought. The most vivid lightning is over the NW Gulf and across SE Alabama.

NWS in Birmingham and Mobile has issued at least six Tornado Warnings with the South Alabama storms tonight. These slow-moving storms were dumping heavy amounts of rain. At midnight, the most intense storms were across NW Russell County, through the east edge of Macon County to Troy in Pike County, then across Crenshaw and Butler County.

Montgomery/Dannelly Field surely has received arouind one inch of rain by now.

It is also interesting that light rain has lingered a long time back behind the line in such places as Talladega and Shelby County.

RESERVOIR HELP
Very anxious to check Friday morning rain reports. I believe that rain was widespread and heavy across the upper watershed of the Little Cahaba River. That drains into Lake Purdy, a key water supply for the Birmingham Metro. We will also check on Atlanta.

Finally, a few more rain reports:

1.55 Columbiana
1.44 Helena (Old Cahaba)
1.66 Clay/Pinson (Womack Road)

It has been a long and very, very day. Headed to the sack. Coffee will be ready at 5:30 and I will be ready for a new day.
