Severe Weather Watch Coming Soon

Below is a mesoscale update from SPC… I expect the first watch for Northwest Alabama to be a tornado watch, but later in the day as the storms consolidate into a single squall line, the risk will be mainly from damaging straight line winds…

And, below is the surface based CAPE, or instability… values over Alabama are generally in the 500-1000 j/kg range, but they should increase to 1500-2000 j/kg by mid to late afternoon.
