Alabama’s Most Detailed Seven Day Forecast
Monday afternoon, March 31, 2025
Forecaster: Ryan Stinnett
Strong and severe storms have been ongoing across Alabama the morning, and these continue to slide east and south late this morning and through the afternoon. These storms are producing very heavy rainfall, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and hail. At times, we are getting severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings along the line, so remain weather aware if you are along and east of the line. If the line of storms has already moved through your location, the severe weather threat is over.
Through the rest of the afternoon hours, the rain will continue to wind down and the sky will clear tonight as drier and cooler air moves into Alabama. Lows tonight will fall into the 40s. Tomorrow, the first day of April, will be a gorgeous day of weather across Alabama with plenty of sunshine, expect highs in the mid to upper 70s. No April’s Fools joke for Alabama’s weather from Mother Nature tomorrow.
BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For March 31st, the average high for Birmingham is 71° and the average low is 48°. The record high is 86° set in 1981, while the record low is 29° set in 2003. We average 0.18” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.14” set in 1935.
REST OF WEEK: We will be cranking up the heat levels for the second half of the week as a strong upper ridge builds in across the Deep South. Highs Wednesday-Saturday will surge into the mid and upper 80s across Alabama, and these will be the warmest temperatures so far in 2025. In fact, there could be a 90° temperature somewhere on the maps in Alabama on these days. Record highs are in jeopardy and here are the current record highs for Birmingham these four days:
April 2 86 (2012)
April 3 87 (1999)
April 4 88 (1934)
April 5 88 (2010)
If we do reach 90° on one of these days in Birmingham, it won’t be the earliest 90 degree temperature on record; that happened on March 21, 1907. As far as rainfall, the ridge will keep widespread showers and storms north and west of Alabama, but a few strong storms could creep into the northwest corner of the state Wednesday evening. A few isolated showers will be possible each day and these days will feature more clouds than sun.
SUNDAY AND NEXT WEEK: The ridge breaks down on Sunday, allowing showers and thunderstorms to return to Alabama. Then, much cooler air returns to Alabama as a late season cold snap is expected. There will be the chance of some risk of frost and a late season freeze for parts of Alabama by April 7-8. Much of next week looks dry for now with highs in the 60s and lows generally in the 40s.
WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 112.1F at Birni-N’Konni, Niger. The lowest observation was -100.1F at Concordia, Antarctica.
CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 100F at Hidalgo, TX. The lowest observation was 0F at Estcourt Station, ME.
