Flash Flood Warnings Issued for North Central Alabama; 4 Counties Cleared from the Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Flash flood warnings are now in effect for multiple counties across north and central Alabama as rounds of heavy rain continue overnight. In northwest Alabama, trained spotters have reported flash flooding in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, and western Lawrence Counties, where 2 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen. That warning continues until 6:00 AM.
Farther east, radar has indicated flash flooding across Cullman, Morgan, Madison, Marshall, DeKalb, and Jackson Counties. These storms are training over the same areas, and an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible through early morning. This warning also remains in effect until 6:00 AM.
In central Alabama, a separate flash flood warning is active until 7:30 AM for Fayette, Winston, and northwestern Walker Counties. Heavy rain is ongoing in this region as well, with more rainfall expected. Low-lying areas, creeks, and urban spots may quickly flood.
If you are in any of these warned areas, avoid driving on flooded roads and be extra cautious at night when it’s harder to recognize flood danger. Turn around, don’t drown.
Tornado Watch 128 has been canceled for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, and Winston Counties in central Alabama. Cities no longer under the watch include Fayette, Hamilton, Haleyville, Sulligent, and Vernon.
