Severe Weather Update: Tornado Watch For North MS and South TN; Radar In AL Quiet For Now

| March 23, 2025 @ 3:28 pm

The Storm Prediction Center moments ago issued a tornado watch for portions of northern Mississippi, southern/western Tennessee, southwestern Kentucky, and eastern Arkansas. At this time, no part of Alabama is included in this watch, although one may be required for northwest Alabama later depending on how storms evolve over the coming hours. For now, radar remains quiet across Alabama as well as most of Mississippi.

A plume of modestly unstable and modestly sheared airmass (indicated by EHI values exceeding 1 unit) is located to the west of Alabama generally where the tornado watch is in effect. This airmass will work into west and northwest Alabama later tonight which may result in an environment favorable for a few instances of large hail, damaging winds, and a low chance for an isolated tornado or 2. Overall, the threat is fairly low, but certainly not zero and we encourage you to remain weather aware especially after 7pm this evening.
