Late Morning Check on Our Weather Situation

| January 11, 2025 @ 11:01 am

We have a mix of sun and clouds out there at this late morning hour as of 10:40AM, and ice should be melting away on the roadways at this point. Other than Fort Payne and Albertville, all readings across the state at 10AM were above freezing, ranging from the lower 30s to the upper 30s. Demopolis and Eufaula are the warm spots at 39 degrees. Birmingham was at 36 degrees. The satellite image actually picks up the snow cover that remains over North Alabama.

We’ll continue to have that mix of sun and clouds throughout the remainder of the day, with the clouds slowly diminishing. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 30s in the north to the mid and upper 40s in the south. If there are any remaining liquids on the roadways tonight, those will freeze again as overnight lows will dip all of the way down into the mid-teens to the upper 20s.

The good news is that Sunday will be a much brighter and warmer day, even though for Alabama standards, it will still be cold. We’ll start off with some clouds, but those will diminish through the day, leaving us with mostly sunny skies. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 40s to the upper 50s.
