A Look At Road Conditions After Todays Winter Storm: Icy Conditions Already Reported

| January 10, 2025 @ 8:21 pm

Temperatures tonight have already begun to fall into the lower 30s, with many areas in central and northern AL already at the freezing mark. We expect temperatures to continue to drop into the mid 20s for northern AL and around 30 for central portions of the state. As mentioned previously, this could result in areas of black ice tonight.

Across the aforementioned areas with near or at freezing surface temperatures, many areas have already begun reporting icy conditions on roadways. Every green symbol you see on the above map from ALDOT is a report of icy roads. Currently, these are most concentrated over the northern third of the state. However, as temperatures drop tonight, we anticipated that roadways further south including the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa metro areas will experience some black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Please exercise caution if you have to travel tonight.
