NWS Huntsville Confirms a Tornado Hit Athens Saturday Night
The National Weather Service in Huntsville has confirmed that an EF1 tornado impacted the city of Athens Saturday night. The tornado was rated EF1 with maximum winds of 100mph. It had a width of 160 yards and was on the ground for a little under 4 miles resulting in extensive tree and structural damage along the path.
We expect that at least 2 additional tornadoes will be confirmed later today based on a public information statement issued by the NWS in Birmingham, so we will make an additional post when that happens.
