| December 28, 2024 @ 9:31 pm

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Marion County in northwestern Alabama and Fayette County in west-central Alabama, effective until 10:45 PM CST. At 9:28 PM CST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Mantachie to near Millport, moving northeast at 55 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 70 mph, which may cause considerable tree damage and damage to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Locations expected to be impacted include Hamilton, Winfield, Fayette, Haleyville, Guin, Hackleburg, Berry, Brilliant, Glen Allen, Belk, Gu-Win, Bankston, Weston, Bluff, Boley Springs, Brinn, Lake Buttahatchee, Bear Creek, Twin, and Tucker.

For your safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Intense thunderstorm lines like this one can produce brief tornadoes and widespread wind damage. While a tornado is not immediately likely, it is still safest to move to a low, interior room away from windows. These storms may cause serious injury and significant property damage. Stay vigilant and monitor for updates.
