Midday Nowcast: Warming Trend Begins with Sunshine in Full Supply

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS: Plenty of sunshine across Alabama today and highs are climbing into the in the 50s as the warming trend begins. More of the same tomorrow, but temperatures will be warmer with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. The weather stays dry through tomorrow.

CHRISTMAS FORECAST: We bring in a chance of some rain Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night, as Christmas Day will feature more clouds than sunshine, and temperatures should remain in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For December 23rd, the average high for Birmingham is 55° and the average low is 37°. The record high is 73° set in 2015, while the record low is 1° set in 1989. We average 0.16” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.21” set in 1990.

USA BRIEF: A series of Pacific storm systems will cross the Northwest U.S. this week bringing gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow. A few locally severe storms could occur across parts of central and East Texas on Tuesday. Generally mild conditions and above average temperatures are expected Christmas Day across the majority of the U.S.

REST OF 2024: Thursday and Friday, we expect a few showers each days with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Both days will feature more clouds than sunshine. For the weekend, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase as moisture levels rise. Highs will be in the 60s statewide Saturday and Sunday, and the relatively mild weather will continue into the first half of next week as we round out 2024. Much colder weather looks to arrive as we get into the first couple of weeks of 2025.
