Flood Advisory Issued For Jefferson County, Plus Other Strong Storms Developing
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for much of Jefferson County. The flood advisory is in effect until 10:15AM and includes areas such as Bessemer, Birmingham, Center Point, Trussville, and Vestavia Hills.
Here are the details from the NWS:
“*WHAT…Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE…A portion of central Alabama, including the following county, Jefferson.
* WHEN…Until 1015 AM CST.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… – At 815 AM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. – Some locations that will experience flooding include… Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Hueytown, Gardendale, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Fairfield, Fultondale, Center Point, Pleasant Grove, Clay, Pinson, Tarrant and Midfield.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.”
In addition to this flood advisory, a special weather statement has been issued for Southern Tuscaloosa, Northern Hale, and western Bibb counties. A strong thunderstorm was located near Moundville, moving east at around 35mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40mph and torrential rainfall as well as frequent lightning.
