Preview of WeatherBrains Episode 986: Warn On Forecast System
Joining us tonight at 8pm ET/7pm CT will be Patrick Burke, Warn-on-Forecast Program Lead at NOAA / National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) and David Hogg, Research Associate at the Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO) at the University of Oklahoma.
They will be presenting to the brainy crew tonight the Warn On Forecast System (WoFS). “It is the first model system to perform rapid data assimilation of radar and satellite in real time, adding new information to the model every five to 15 minutes. The forecast graphics from WoFS have been designed using feedback from NWS operational forecasters. And the forecasts are displayed at a five-minute resolution. This allows forecasters to view movie-like loops of the model simulations looking for storm-scale details.”
