No Major Changes in the Alabama Drought Situation. Beneficial Rain Coming Soon!

| December 5, 2024 @ 5:07 pm

The latest U.S. Drought monitor was released today and looking at things over the past few weeks, only a few minor changes.  More rain needed to put a dent in the drought…..and perhaps some coming in soon!

First of all, less than 1% of the state is considered to be in no drought. You can find that in a small portion of Lauderdale and Colbert Counties.  There has been a small drop in the D3 extreme drought conditions, from 3.19% of the state two weeks ago to 0.77% of the state now.  Those conditions are across parts of Limestone and Madison counties. The other drought categories have not fluctuated much since last week.

Waves of beneficial rain expected for the state during the early half of next week. The 7-day rainfall map from the WPC (which takes us through Thursday evening of next week), shows the potential of rain totals of a good 2-3 inches or more.  Bring it on!
