Midday Nowcast: Cold Day Despite Sunshine in Full Supply
COLDER: A reinforcing shot of cold air is dropping into Alabama today, and temperatures remain well-below average with highs struggling to climb out of the 40s despite plenty of sunshine. Expect lows in the low to upper 20s tonight. Tomorrow will be a sunny and cold day with highs in the mid-40s. Another very cold night with low and mid 20s expected tomorrow night, and colder spots across North Alabama are likely to see teens.
BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For December 2nd, the average high for Birmingham is 60° and the average low is 40°. The record high is 76° set in 1991, while the record low is 20° set in 1960. We average 0.15” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 2.45” set in 1983.
SOME MIDWEEK SHOWERS: Clouds increase Wednesday and some rain is expected Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Overnight lows will hold in the 40s, so we are not expecting any frozen precipitation. Highs Wednesday and Thursday will be in the 50s, but another surge of colder air flow into the state Thursday night with lows falling into the 20s. Friday will be sunny and cold with highs in the 40s .
WEEKEND UNCERTAINTY: There is some model madness rolling into the weekend, expect changes to the forecast in the coming days. The more reliable European model shows Saturday will be dry with a high in the 50s, then clouds return Sunday, and rain becomes likely late Sunday into early next week. But the American model, shows clouds and showers returning Saturday and continuing Saturday night and Sunday. Highs this weekend will be in the 40s and 50s. No sign of any severe thunderstorm issues for Alabama through mid-December.
