Latest U.S. Drought Monitor: Small Improvements…
Time to look at the latest on the drought conditions across Alabama. The data is valid as of 7am EST on November 19, so the rain this week is not a part of this report issued today. Some areas of the state managed to pick up 2-3 inches of rain this week, locally more. That was certainly beneficial and hopefully we will see a change in the drought map next week!
Last week, we did have rain and that helped a little bit with the drought conditions. Here is the map as of today:
Showing up this week is a teenie-weenie area of exceptional drought. I had to get a magnifying glass to find it and it is in the northern part of Limestone County. Severe to extreme drought encompasses the rest of that county.
For Alabama, extreme drought coverage area is down to 3.19% compared to 4.68% last week. Severe drought is down by about 8%. The Moderate Drought numbers are down too. More of the state slid into the abnormally dry category due to the rain last week. Less than 1% of the state has no drought intensity.
