Midday Nowcast: Wet is the Word as a Soggy Tuesday Continues
SOGGY TUESDAY: A widespread, soaking rain moved into Alabama overnight and has continued through the morning hours. There are a few embedded thunderstorms, but the threat of severe storms is confined to southern sections of the state, and even there, the threat is very low. The rain will slowly wind down from west to east the rest of today and into tonight. Temperatures today are generally in the 60s for most locations.
BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For November 19th, the average high for Birmingham is 64° and the average low is 42°. The record high is 80° set in 1985, while the record low is 18° set in 1903. We average 0.14” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 2.37” set in 1900.
REST OF WEEK: The cold front will push through the state tomorrow, and the rest of this week will be dry with a cooling trend. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s, but a brisk north wind will blow colder temperatures into Alabama Thursday as highs will not make it out of the 50s. By Friday morning, lows will fall into the 30s. Friday will be the coldest day with highs in the low to mid 50s, while parts of North Alabama will likely remain the 40s. These days will feature tons of sunshine and blue sky.
WEEKEND WEATHER: Saturday morning will be our coldest with freezing temperatures expected. Highs remain in the 50s across the northern half of the state Saturday, then rising into the 60s Sunday, it will remain dry with tons of sunshine both days.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather will be clear and cold for the high school playoff games Friday night. A clear sky with temperatures falling through the 40s, possibly reaching the 30s by the fourth quarter.
Saturday UAB will host Rice at Protective Stadium (1:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the mid 50s.
Auburn hosts Texas A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… it will be a clear, cold evening in Lee County with temperatures falling through the 40s.
Alabama will be on the road; they take on Oklahoma in Norman (6:30p CT kickoff)… expect a clear sky with temperatures in the 50s.
THANKSGIVING WEEK: As we roll into next week, for now the weather looks dry Monday and Tuesday, followed by a few waves of rain and thunderstorms over the latter half of the week. Highs will be generally in the 60s.
IN THE TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is quiet with no tropical development expected the next seven days. Hurricane ends on November 30th.
