Tropical Storm Likely to Form by Weeks End. Here is the Latest From the NHC
As if this hurricane season hasn’t been active enough, there is yet another area to watch for likely development later this week.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disorganized thunderstorm activity in the central Caribbean, and has increased the chances for development in 48 hours to 60%, and in 7 days to 90%. A tropical storm is likely to form by the end of the week, and the next name on the list is Sara.
It is still too early for details, especially since a storm has not yet formed. However, early looks at model data suggest eventual Sara could intensify over the very warm waters with low wind shear. A hurricane in the southern Gulf is not out of the question, but exact intensity as well as track are far from a lock at this range. Model data will be much more reliable once the storm actually forms later this week. We will continue to monitor this throughout the week with daily updates.
