A New Area to Watch for the Tropics. Here’s the Latest Update From NHC:
As of early this afternoon, the NHC has outlined an area of possible tropical development later this week. This area of interest was located near Hispaniola, and the NHC is giving it a 50% chance of developing within the next 5 days.
From the NHC discussion:
“This system is expected to move slowly westward
during the next few days, and environmental conditions appear
conducive for gradual development. A tropical depression could form
late this week or this weekend while meandering over the western
Caribbean Sea.”
Some model data does suggest that a tropical system of some sort (its too early to know any possible intensity) could form towards the end of the week, though uncertainty is high this many day in advance. We will continue to monitor this area over the next several days, and update as needed. Other than this, the rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet.
