Tropical Storm Rafael is currently located at 25.5°N and 91.7°W, about 315 miles north-northwest of Progreso, Mexico. It has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km/h) and is moving west-northwest at 5 mph (7 km/h). The storm’s central pressure is estimated at 1000 mb (29.53 inches). Rafael is slowly moving over the central Gulf of Mexico and is expected to weaken further. By early next week, it is forecast to become a post-tropical remnant low. The storm is likely to meander through Sunday before shifting southward on Monday and Tuesday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 115 miles from Rafael’s center. Swells generated by the storm are impacting parts of the northern and western Gulf Coast, creating dangerous surf and rip currents. Residents should stay informed through local weather offices for updates.
Rainfall linked to Rafael is expected to bring 3 to 6 inches of rain to parts of Southwest and Central Louisiana through Sunday, with isolated amounts reaching up to 10 inches. This could lead to flash flooding in affected areas. Stay alert to weather advisories and warnings as conditions develop.
