Pockets of Extreme Drought for Parts of the State. Here is the Latest U.S. Drought Monitor Update!

| November 7, 2024 @ 12:28 pm

Drought conditions are worsening across the state of Alabama.  For the second week in a row, every county in the state is under one of the drought categories.  This week, we have seen and increase in the D2 level (severe drought) and for the first time in many months, we have almost 2% of the state under extreme drought conditions (D3).

The extreme drought area are located near the Tennessee line across parts of Limestone and Madison Counties.  A small portion of Greene, Hale and Sumter Counties are now under an extreme drought as well as a good chunk of Washington County.

We do have a system that will be lifting through the southeast Friday and this weekend helping to drawn in much needed rain.  The Weather Prediction Center shows QPF amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches for portions of NW Alabama.  Much lesser amounts across southern Alabama.  We will take what we can get!!
