Midday Nowcast: Dry and Almost Getting Hot
THE DOLDRUMS OF FALL: Still no signs of rain the next 7-10 days for Alabama, and it sure looks like Birmingham will have its first October with no rain since 1924. Our days continue to feature sunshine and warm temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 80s, which are about ten degrees above average. Also, we aren’t too far away from record highs as well. Lows will remain in the 50s, but still feeling amazing in the evening, night, and morning hours.
BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For October 21st, the average high for Birmingham is 73° and the average low is 51°. The record high is 89° set in 1941, while the record low is 32° set in 1937. We average 0.11” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 1.93” set in 1945.
FOOTBALL FORECAST: Tonight Jacksonville State will host MTSU at AmFirst Stadium/Burgess-Snow Field (6:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be clear; temperatures will fall from near 80 degrees at kickoff into the upper 60s by the final whistle.
WEEKEND WEATHER: A dry cold front will pass through the state late this weekend, and will bring cooler air back into the Deep South late Sunday and into Monday. The front might squeeze out an isolated shower or two, but we expect no meaningful rain, and most places will stay dry. Temperatures reach the mid-80s Saturday, but the high Sunday will be in the 70s, with those overnight lows likely falling back into the 40s. The quiet weather pattern will persist into the final week of October.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Expect a clear sky for the high school games across Alabama Friday night with temperatures falling through the 70s during the first half, reaching the 60s by the fourth quarter.
Saturday the annual Magic City Classic kicks off at 2:30p CT at Legion Field in Birmingham (Alabama State vs Alabama A&M)… the sky will be partly to mostly sunny; expect low to mid 80s through the first half, falling to near 80 degrees by end of the game.
UAB will host Tulsa Saturday at Protective Stadium in downtown Birmingham (1:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
Alabama hosts Missouri at Saban Field at Bryant Denny Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… the afternoon in Tuscaloosa will be warm and dry with about 85 degrees at kickoff. Temperatures fall into the 70s by the final whistle.
And, Auburn will travel to Lexington to take on Kentucky Saturday evening (6:45p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling from near 62 at kickoff into the mid 50s by the final whistle.
IN THE TROPICS: All is quiet and no tropical development is expected in the Atlantic through the weekend.
