Oscar Soon to Make Landfall Along the Northern Coast of Eastern Cuba

Hurricane Oscar is now approaching the northern coast of eastern Cuba, where conditions will soon worsen. Currently, Oscar has winds of 80 mph and is moving west-southwest at 7 mph. Expect weakening after landfall, but Oscar may still be a tropical storm as it moves north of Cuba into Tuesday.

Location: About 80 miles ENE of Guantanamo, Cuba

Expected Landfall: Northern coast of eastern Cuba later this afternoon or evening

Warnings:

Hurricane Warnings for the northern coasts of Holguin and Guantanamo provinces

Tropical Storm Warnings for southeastern Bahamas and southern Guantanamo

Rainfall:

5-10 inches with isolated amounts up to 15 inches expected in eastern Cuba, and 3-5 inches in the southeastern Bahamas.

Projected Movement:

Tonight: Continues west-southwest, making landfall along Cuba’s northern coast.

Monday: Turns northwest, crossing eastern Cuba.

Tuesday: Turns north, then accelerates northeast across the central Bahamas.
