U.S. Drought Monitor: Moderate Drought Levels Creeping Up a Bit
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor was released on Thursday and it should be of no surprise that some of the levels have increased. It has been so dry across the state and that trend is to continue for awhile.
There was no change from last week on the counties under no abnormally dry or drought conditions. That remains at 12.5% of the state.
The abnormally dry percentage has decreased and has been added to the moderate drought. There is an area of moderate drought across the far northern parts of Alabama and also west for Lamar and Pickens Counties. A good part of central to southwestern Alabama under this category as well.
Severe drought is up a smidge to 1.59% of the state. Small areas of Lauderdale, Limestone and Madison Counties continue to be in this and now southern Perry, western Dallas, eastern Marengo, and northern Wilcox. Would not be surprised to see this expand next week as we have no substantial rain in the forecast.
