A Quick Look at the Tropics

| October 15, 2024 @ 12:34 pm

We mentioned yesterday that there are a couple areas in the Tropics that we are paying close attention to. So far, not a lot has changed from yesterday’s update.

The first area, which has a 60% of formation over the next 7 days, is currently located in the Central Atlantic. Right now, it is just an area of disorganized thunderstorms. However, it appears that a low pressure area may begin to form, which could eventually lead to a tropical depression if it can organize itself. It looks as though this could happen towards the end of this week.

Models are all over the place with this area. A couple show an impressive tropical cyclone developing, while most still do not even show a tropical system even forming. In the models that do show a system developing, the main area of concern seems to stay south of the United States. However, it is important to remember that tropical forecasts can change in the blink of an eye. With this being said, we will continue to keep an eye on this area over the coming days.

In the second area, located in the Western Caribbean Sea, we could see a low pressure area form later this week. If this happens, a weak and short lived tropical system could form and interact with areas in Central America.
