Tropics Update: An Unlikely Area in the Gulf; 2 Tropical Systems in the Atlantic
We have been continuously watching an area in the Gulf over the last few days, and it is beginning to look less likely that we will see a tropical system come out of it. The NHC has reduced the chance for development to 30% over the next 7 days, down from 40%. It appears likely that an area of low pressure will move into the Gulf, but latest model runs do not seem to support the development of a tropical system along with this area. Here is the area currently marked by the NHC:
Hurricane Kirk has now strengthened into a category 4 hurricane as it rages across the Atlantic. While the United States will not see a direct interaction with Kirk, the East Coast does have the potential of seeing some large swells resulting from Kirk this weekend. Finally, Tropical Storm Leslie continues to strengthen over the waters of the Eastern Atlantic. Expected to reach hurricane status tomorrow afternoon, Leslie will remain over the open waters of the Atlantic and should not cause any impact to the United States over the coming days. Here’s a look at Leslie’s projected track:
