And Then There Were Three…and a new AOI
The NHC has started issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Joyce, in the Central Tropical Atlantic. We also have have Hurricane Issac heading east over the northern Atlantic.
Helene is producing historic and catastrophic flooding over portions of the Southeast and southern Appalachians. Flash flood emergencies are in effect for metropolitan Atlanta, as well as much of upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina.
That yellow area in the western Caribbean and southern Gulf is an area of interest (AOI) being monitored by the NHC. A low-pressure system could form over the western Caribbean Sea by mid-next week, with conditions expected to be favorable for slow development as it moves northwestward. There is a 30 percent chance of formation within the next seven days, and the system may enter the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week.
