Hurricane Helene Makes Landfall in Florida Big Bend

Hurricane Helene has officially made landfall in the Florida Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane at approximately 11:10 PM EDT (0310 UTC). The eye of the storm struck just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River, about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry, Florida. According to National Weather Service Doppler radar data, Helene’s maximum sustained winds are estimated at 140 mph (225 km/h), with a minimum central pressure of 938 mb (27.70 inches).

Distance from Tallahassee: About 45 miles (70 km) to the southeast
