A Rare Extreme Wind Warning Issued for Several Counties in Florida’s Big Bend Area

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued an Extreme Wind Warning for several counties in Florida’s Big Bend area until midnight EDT. This includes Lafayette, Wakulla, Dixie, Taylor, Jefferson, Leon, and Madison counties.

As of 8:59 PM EDT, extreme winds from the eyewall of Hurricane Helene, moving at 35 mph, are coming ashore 39 miles southeast of Carrabelle. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation!

Areas impacted include Tallahassee, Woodville, Monticello, Mayo, Steinhatchee, St. Marks, Perry, Madison, and other nearby locations.

Precautionary Actions:

Take cover immediately, as you would for a tornado. Move to a reinforced interior room, away from windows. Use sturdy furniture and cover yourself with mattresses, blankets, or pillows. Stay in place until these life-threatening winds have passed.
