A Brief Check on Our Weather Before 7pm’s Hurricane Update

Current radar as of 6:20pm shows that any rainfall falling across Alabama is over on the eastern side of the state. The heaviest rain is occurring over the southeastern quarter of the state, especially just southwest of Dothan and up to around Phenix City. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for portions of Coffee, Dale, Geneva, and Houston counties until 12:15am Friday.

A Tropical Storm Warning continues for Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Cherokee, Cleburne, Lee, Macon, Pike, Randolph, and Russell counties in Central Alabama until 7am Friday, and for Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties until further notice.

In the warning area, sustained wind of 10-25 mph can be expected with gusts up to and potentially exceeding 40-50 mph. Trees and power lines damage, along with minor structure damage possible. Power outages will be likely.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for all of North Alabama until 7am Friday, the East-Central counties in Central Alabama until 7am Friday, and for a few counties in the central parts of South Alabama, along with the southern halves of Baldwin and Mobile counties until 7pm tonight. In the advisory area, we can expect sustained winds of 10-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Sporadic power outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is in effect for all the North Alabama counties until 7am Friday, and for all the east and central counties in Central Alabama until 1am Friday.

Latest rainfall projections have the west and southwestern parts of the state potentially staying dry tonight through this time tomorrow evening, while the eastern and northern parts of the state could see anywhere from less than 1/2-inch to as much as 4.00 inches.
