Flash Flood Watches Have Expired…Rain Shifting West, Coverage Will Be Less Today

| September 15, 2024 @ 7:20 am

The good news this morning is that while the radar does show rain still over West Central Alabama, it has shifted west into areas that have received less rainfall over the past two days.

Here is the WPC excessive rainfall outlook for today:

In addition to that, coverage will be lower today, so the flash flood watches have been allowed to expire.

There will still be some heavy rain in the heavier showers, and any areas that have received heavy rain that get more rain will see some localized flooding.

Flooding does continue on Big Nance Creek in Lawrence County where a flood warning remains in effect. The stream is expected to crest at 18.5 feet today. Major flooding starts at 20 feet in Courtland. Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of 18.4 feet on 02/13/1965.

We might even see a little sun as we go through the day, especially this afternoon.
