Flash Flood Warning Until 1:15am for Parts of Bibb, Chilton, Perry, & Dallas Counties
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Bibb County, Southwestern Chilton County, Northeastern Perry County, and Dallas County in central Alabama until 1:15 AM CDT. At 10:16 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected thunderstorms producing heavy rain in these areas, with between 2 and 5 inches of rain already fallen. Flash flooding is currently ongoing or expected to start soon.
The warning is due to flash flooding caused by thunderstorms, which may affect small creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poorly drained or low-lying regions. Locations likely to experience flash flooding include Selma, Valley Grande, Selmont-West Selmont, Orrville, Potter Station, Dallas County Horse Arena, Memorial Stadium, Old Cahaba Park, and several others.
To stay safe, turn around and avoid driving through flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Exercise extra caution at night when it’s harder to see the dangers of flooding.
