Flash Flood Warning Extended Until 11pm for Portions of Cullman, Lawrence, and Morgan Counties.

| September 13, 2024 @ 8:55 pm

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has extended the Flash Flood Warning until 11:00 PM CDT for Cullman County, Western Morgan County, and Eastern Lawrence County in north central Alabama. As of 8:51 PM CDT, thunderstorms have been causing heavy rain across these areas, with reports of flash flooding already in Moulton and Cullman. The rainfall is expected to continue at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with additional amounts of 1 to 2 inches possible. Flash flooding is either ongoing or expected to start soon.

Emergency management has noted that this flooding could affect small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying and poorly drained areas. Cities likely to experience flash flooding include Decatur, Cullman, Hartselle, Moulton, Priceville, Good Hope, Trinity, and several others in the region.

If you encounter flooded roads, remember to turn around and avoid driving through them, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Be particularly cautious at night, when it’s harder to see the dangers of flooding. In hilly areas, low water crossings can be especially dangerous during heavy rain, so it’s best to find an alternate route and stay safe.
