Heavy Rain and Isolated Threat for Flash Flooding for Eastern Alabama
Heavy rain has set up across parts of Eastern Alabama this morning. We have one active flood advisory and a discussion from the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) about the threat.
The flood advisory is for Russell County. Excessive rainfall could cause small stream flooding. This is near the Fort Mitchell and Rutherford areas.

* WHAT…Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE…A portion of central Alabama, including the following county, Russell.
* WHEN…Until 830 AM CDT.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 519 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Fort Mitchell Activity Center, Uchee Creek, Fort Mitchell and
Rutherford.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
The WPC is monitoring this area of Eastern AL and into Western GA. Rainfall rates could be 1-2 inches per hour. Some backbuilding of the storm could occur bringing total rain in this area of 2-4″+.
