Flood Watch in Effect Through Saturday Morning for North Alabama

| September 11, 2024 @ 11:41 pm

A flood watch is in effect through 7 AM on Saturday morning as Tropical Storm Francine continues to impact the region. Portions of Alabama, including areas like Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties are under this watch.

Flash flooding is possible due to excessive rainfall. With an extended period of moderate to heavy rain expected, rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas may be affected. Urban areas with poor drainage systems are also at risk.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms from Tropical Storm Francine will bring between 2 to 5 inches of rain across the Tennessee Valley by Saturday morning, with locally heavier rainfall possible in some areas, reaching up to 7 to 10 inches under the heaviest rain bands. This prolonged rainfall can lead to flash flooding in vulnerable areas.

Make sure to stay informed by monitoring the latest forecasts, and be ready to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
