Advisories, Watches, and Warnings Likely Later Today on 91L in the Gulf

| September 8, 2024 @ 10:48 am

The system over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico looks very disorganized this morning, but there is lots of intense convection.

Lots of strong wind gusts over the western Gulf overnight from shipping as well.

Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters are preparing or take off from Keesler AFB in Biloxi on Mission #1 in the Invest 91L. Another mission will follow this evening with another early on Monday.

Advisories will probably commence this afternoon with watches or warnings. A depression will like form sometime between in the next 24-48 hours.

The 06z run of the GFS has a 972 mb borderline cat 1 hurricane approaching the Louisiana coast Wednesday night, fighting dry air and shear, and perhaps weakening at that time.

This track would be near Intracoastal City, or south of New Iberia and Lafayette, probably west of Morgan City. It would bring beneficial rains to Alabama starting Thursday.

The 12z run is starting to come in. Will have another update after noon.
