Tropics Update: Watching Two Areas!

| August 30, 2024 @ 7:15 am

Happy Friday everyone!  As we are finishing off this week and getting into the holiday weekend, there are a couple disturbances in the Atlantic that we are watching!  No immediate impacts.

Here is the latest 7-day tropical weather outlook graphic from the NHC:

  1.  There is still a tropical wave over the central Atlantic that is rather disorganized. Conditions ahead of it remain conducive for slow development and there is a possibility we could have a tropical depression next week. Chance for formation over the next 7 days is at 40%.
  2. Behind that wave…is another one that has just emerged off Africa.  Some slow development is possible.  Chance for formation over 7 days is at 20%.

It is still early of course to say how these storms will develop and whether or not a US impact will occur but it certainly needs to be watched as we cruise through the early parts of September. The models show varying scenarios on both waves and even show a third forming.  We will keep you posted as we move through the peak of hurricane season.
